A Melancholy Moment

Guess Where?

I realize I may have misled you. It seems once I finally I had the energy to do a new post I was caught up in remembering our life in Italy and I became a touch melancholy. But I assure you, you can tuck your worries away. I am not really one for pining or getting stuck in a rut (at least not for long!). Rather I have sort of shut out Italy in some respects, throwing myself into living in Washington D.C. You could say I’m feeling a bit guilty that Italy has become second fiddle, no longer the center of my world. I suppose that’s what brought the melancholy on, the knowledge that I had moved on, sort of like remembering an ex-boyfriend and all the good times. But the truth is, a new love has taken over and where my energy was once spent on knowing Italy, I’m now engaged in getting to know our new home. I love, love, love our “little” house, located in a very cool part of Georgetown. We live only blocks away from parks, playgrounds and trails. The Cocoran Collage of Art + Design is at the end of my street, not to mention Georgetown University on the other end. Our neighborhood is historic, it has energy, it has art and culture, and so many fantastic ethnic restaurants (Italy I love your food, but Thai anyone?) that it would be hard not to fall in love. So that’s where I’m at: missing Italy but loving my new life here.

* None of those pictures were taken in Italy. They are all from Georgetown!

I'm glad that memories feel good, and that your new life is even better. How about more photos of your great new location?
PS as far as old boyfriends are concerned, personally I'm so happy they are in the distant past:)

Hi Francesca- Yes, you have a point, I'm happy all my ex-boyfriends are waaaaaay in the past!! I def. need to get my camera out and start taking more photos, but to be fair, I've been blogging for over 6 years on our family blog (landesinokinawa.blogspot.com). That's where I stick most of our family/kiddo photos, etc. For SOR I've tried to stay Italy focused, but I'm thinking the two blogs now need to meet eachother! It's funny, I started SOR for more specific Italy travel/food/shopping info but it morphed along the way and I ended up making friends in the process. I've kept the two separate b/c, well, I'm not sure.. maybe b/c one was for family and one was for the book. Oh well. One of these days I'll figure it all out! Ciao, K

Ciao Karen!
You have such an inspiring attitude and approach to life. Thank you for sharing it with us all! It is ok to be sad about missing beautiful moments of life in the past, but hanging on tight to the present is so important. And...Oh, Georgetown! What a beautiful neighborhood. It was my favorite place to take walks in the spring when I lived in the DC area. Just wait until the wisteria blooms in the spring! It is out of this world! Have you discovered the Dumbarton Oaks gardens yet? (http://www.doaks.org/gardens/) If I remember right, they're just around the corner. Yes, I second Francesca about more photos! :-)

I'm jealous of your new adventure. Spent many years at Georgetown University and miss it terribly. Enjoy!
