Goodbye Volcano

"Goodbye Volcano!" my 4 year-old son screamed as we climbed up into the air, away from Naples and into our new life. It was only a mere 16 hours later that we touched down in Washington DC. Since then it's been go-go-go. We are currently staying with my mom in Annapolis which means my husband has to commute to work. Today was his first day. As we have no car yet he is riding the bus into the city and will take the Metro to work. We are hoping this system goes smooth so that we can stay a one car family. We'll see. As for me, this morning I'm trying to catch my breath. (Holy! as I'm typing a fox just ran by the window!-- so much for catching my breath, instead I'm holding it till he passes! How wild is that?!)

Thanks for all the warm comments on my last post from Italy. I promise to keep you updated as we transition to our new life. My husband, who is from California, claims he is having 2x the culture shock: not only is he adjusting to life in the US, but East Coast living. For me it's not so strange since I'm from Annapolis, but still, there are adjustments...but more on that later. Right now I have to research "tick removal." Apparently my nephew picked up a new friend-- in his ear no less. Foxes and ticks! Yes, I really am back home!

I have special tweezers for ticks. Remove turning in an anti -clockwise direction. We too have wild life from the forest next door in our garden!

You might try some polish remover first on a cotton swab to get him to pull his head out. A little less painful if you can do it this way.
Our home in Annapolis is right next to the Naval Stadium and is so sweet but we love our sweet home here in Italy also. I have some great friends on Maryland Ave. there in D.C. They love it. Hope you continue to write as you've done here for so long.
Ciao Bella

Great picture! We flew out of Naples on Alitalia a few years ago and the pilot did a similar fly by of Vesuvius. Wouldn't you know camera was buried in my wife's bag in overhead compartment!

Gil, I would believe it b/c as we started to land in DC all the different monuments came into view and then I remembered that you fly into National you get a great view of the Washington Monument with the river so I did a scramble to get my camera out in time. But as you can see I didn't post any pics of that, I just wasn't fast enough! Next time I'll know better.

What a great new life. You guys actually can enjoy traveling much^^ though the problem might be your husband's attitude in the state of "culture shock"

surely people from different countries act different and you may not know how they behave. But one lovely site would really solve that problem, Baraaza.com. You can know the people before going from one place to place.

You can even interact with people who have experienced the place before ;)so culture shock may be easy to overcome if you first know the people themselves, Baraaza.com can help you fully ;) not just the people yet the culture, style, etc...you can learn a lot^^
