That's right The Dante Alighieri Society is calling on Italians to protect their language by rejecting foreign (that would be English) words. "Anglitaliano" as it's referenced has crept into the language for various reasons, like, it's just "cool". But there are also some words that just didn't exist in Dante's time, take computer, Internet, and fax for example.
The society conducted an online survey over 4 months asking for inappropriate examples of foreign words used in everyday Italian. The winner, "il weekend."
You can learn more about the society by visiting their Italian only website, so don't go bothering to find the British/American flag-- there is no translation!
